Kabataang Barangay, the 2nd organization to leadership and politics
KB National Training at Mount Makiling After the KB elections was conducted in the Barangay, it was federated up to the National level. That was 1975, under the dictatorship of President Ferdinand E, Marcos. A national leadership training was held at Mt. Makiling, Los Banos, Laguna participated by the Kabataang Barangay Chairmen all over the country. The objectives of the leadership training was noble since it inculcated patriotism. Issues on the democratic revolution, Philippine History and the role of youths were deliberated. Programs on economic, education, culture and sports development were initiated. The Kabataang Barangay was created on April 15, 1975 by virtue of Presidential Decree 684. The decree provided for the organization of KB units in the 42,000 barangays nationwide with the purpose of giving the youth a definite role in community affairs and “ample opportunities to express their views that a complete cross-section of the will of the populace could be determined, thereby providing them a more democratic and popular basis for the legislation and/or other governmental operations. The creation of this KB was triggered by the protests made by the Kabataang Makabayan especially in the Metropolis. Majority of the youths were echoing reforms in government. The youths in the schools in Manila, in the major cities and in the surrounding communities were confronting the government authorities in tolerating graft and corruption, tyranny, militarization, feudalism and imperialism. To convince the youths to be with the side of the administration, the National Leadership formed the KB. The KB rested after the People Power Revolution. It was replaced by the Sanguniang Kabataan. Again, this organization was politicized and exposing the youth to graft and corruption.
